Emma Abbott and John Castle as Romeo and Juliet. They have posed for this black and white photograph as they appeared in the famous balcony scene. We see Castle’s right side and Emma’s left. Castle leans against a stone railing, his arms surrounding Emma’s waist. He looks adoringly up at her. Her arms are around his shoulders. Her head is bent forward toward him as she gazes warmly into his face. Her hair has been tightly curled and pulled back behind her ears and allowed to fall down her back. Emma wears a long-sleeved, low-necked gown with sleeves that are bouffant at the shoulder and upper arm, and tight from wrist to elbow. She wears a large necklace that fills in the neckline, a brooch at the top of the bodice, and dangling earrings, and a large ring on both hands. Castle has thick, dark hair and a moustache that curls up at the end. He wears a soft, fabric hat with a large plume that covers the top of the hat, but does not extend above the hat. He wears a long, loose jacket, and a cape with gold designs punctuated with gemstones. His pants are skin-tight and have a pale-colored strip down the side. His ankle-high boots are soft leather. Behind Emma the scenery is painted to resemble the opening from the balcony to her room. Castle leans on the edge of the stone balcony, below which are two vine-covered stairs.
