 In this 1885 black and white photograph of Father Augustine Tolton, he is standing in his priestly garb. Over a basic black floor length robe is a knee-length white covering with elaborate lacework on the sleeves and hem. A white stole with dark borders hangs around his neck, with fringe and a cross near the end, which reaches to the knee. Father Tolton is standing next to a draped waist-high table, perhaps an altar. In his right hand he holds vertically a small booklet, which rests on the altar. His face is handsome, with large eyebrows, soft eyes, and a strong nose and lips. His hair is neat and close cut. Below the photograph is cursive writing stating, “Blessing & Co., 46 N. Charles St.” | |
