Workshops
A series of workshops were held in March and April at various locations around the state to provide interested librarians and library staff members with hands-on training and orientation to the various components of audio description. Topics included:
- Overview of Audio Description: It's value and potential
- Techniques for looking at a digital image in order to describe it in words
- Writing the text of the audio description (including group and individual practice sessions)
- Converting the textual description to an audio file using text-to-speech software
- Manipulating and uploading the audio file to the digital imaging website or archive
- How to assess the impact and usage of your audio description efforts
Tom Peters of
TAP Information Services has been hired by the Alliance Library System to plan, organize, and conduct these workshops. Channy Lyons, an experienced audio describer based in Peoria, is helping Tom create the content for these workshops. Also, throughout the spring and summer both Channy and Tom will be available in online meetings rooms and via the telephone for follow-up assistance as each digital imaging team develops audio descriptions.
